Anthropic has taken artificial intelligence a step closer to becoming a true digital worker. With its latest update, Claude AI can now control your computer, complete tasks, and continue working even when you step away. This new capability transforms Claude from a simple assistant into something far more powerful—an AI that doesn’t just respond, but actively works on your behalf.

Anthropic has introduced a major upgrade to its AI ecosystem, enabling Claude to directly interact with a user’s computer. The feature allows Claude Cowork and Claude Code to click, type, navigate apps, and complete tasks independently. As a result, users can now assign work and let the AI handle execution in the background.

This capability works alongside a feature called Dispatch, which enables continuous conversations across smartphones and desktops. In turn, users no longer need to repeat instructions. Instead, Claude remembers context and continues tasks seamlessly across devices.

How does Claude AI control your computer?

Claude uses a combination of connected tools and direct interface control to execute tasks. It integrates with platforms like Slack, Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Calendar to gather and process information. However, if these tools are not sufficient, Claude automatically switches to a Chrome browser to complete the task.

Additionally, Claude can directly interact with on-screen elements. It can click buttons, type text, open applications, and navigate workflows just like a human user. This marks a significant shift from traditional AI tools that rely only on text-based prompts.

More importantly, Claude keeps working even when the user steps away. The only requirement is that the computer must remain turned on. That said, this persistence introduces a new level of productivity, especially for repetitive or time-consuming tasks.

What tasks can Claude Cowork and Claude Code perform?

Anthropic highlights several real-world use cases that go beyond basic automation. Claude can compile competitive analysis reports by pulling data from multiple sources. It can also organize that data into structured documents and save them in shared folders.

Meanwhile, developers can use Claude Code to test applications. For instance, it can open a phone simulator, interact with apps, and identify UX issues. This hands-on capability moves AI closer to becoming an active collaborator rather than a passive tool.

Additionally, Claude can fill spreadsheets with data, format them, and manage internal dashboards or specialized tools. In fact, this is where the shift toward agentic AI becomes clear. Instead of assisting with single queries, Claude executes entire workflows.

A quiet but powerful change.

Is Claude AI safe to use on your personal computer?

Anthropic has built multiple safeguards to address privacy and security concerns. Claude requires explicit user permission before accessing any application. Furthermore, it is trained to avoid high-risk actions such as transferring funds, modifying files, or handling sensitive personal data.

The system also avoids engaging in stock trading, investment decisions, or scraping facial images. Additionally, users can create an app blocklist to prevent Claude from accessing specific applications. This ensures tighter control over sensitive workflows.

Nevertheless, the introduction of such autonomy raises broader industry questions. As AI systems gain deeper access to user environments, the balance between convenience and control becomes increasingly important.

Who can use Claude’s new computer control feature?

Currently, the feature is limited to paid subscribers. Claude Pro users can access it at approximately ₹1,596 per month, while the Claude Max plan costs around ₹9,386 monthly. However, Team and Enterprise users do not yet have access to this capability.

From an Indian market perspective, this pricing positions Claude as a premium productivity tool. Still, for professionals handling research, data, or development tasks, the time saved could outweigh the cost.

Why this AI shift matters more than it seems

This update reflects a larger industry trend toward autonomous AI agents. Companies are moving beyond chat-based assistants and building systems that can independently execute tasks. As a result, the definition of productivity tools is rapidly evolving.

More importantly, this signals a shift in how work itself is structured. Instead of manually completing tasks, users can delegate entire workflows to AI systems. That said, the real impact will unfold as these tools become more accessible and widely adopted.

Claude’s new computer control feature signals a turning point in AI evolution. As agentic systems become more capable, the line between assistant and coworker continues to blur—reshaping how individuals and businesses approach everyday work.
