Is AI Your Next Partner? The Growing Trend Of ‘AI-S*xual’ Connections

We already rely on technology for directions, music, and even shopping, so maybe it’s not so surprising that people are now turning to it for emotional and intimate connections too. Recently, social media has been filled with stories of people bonding deeply with AI, from chatting daily to even “dating” virtual companions.

A recent survey by Joi AI suggests this trend is becoming mainstream. According to the data, 55% of Gen Z and Millennials say they are open to exploring intimacy with artificial intelligence. For many, AI isn’t just a novelty, it’s a safe space to explore feelings, desires, and curiosity.

The survey reveals how people are using AI in their personal lives. Some turn to it for advice on sexual health, others practice flirting or dating conversations, and many explore fantasies or preferences they may hesitate to express in real life.

Interestingly, a large number of users feel these interactions even improve their confidence and real-world relationships.

Medical experts explain that this trend is less about a new identity and more about changing behavior. People have always formed emotional connections beyond real individuals, whether with fictional characters or ideas. AI simply makes these connections feel more real by responding, remembering, and interacting in a personal way.

Experts also point out why AI feels appealing. It offers a judgment-free space, is always available, and removes the fear of rejection. For someone feeling lonely or emotionally drained, this kind of easy connection can feel comforting and safe.
However, there’s a downside. Real relationships are complex and unpredictable, while AI interactions are smooth and controlled. Experts warn that relying too much on AI could slowly make real-life connections feel more difficult.

In the end, it all comes down to balance. AI can help people understand themselves better and build confidence—but if it starts replacing real human connections, it may lead to isolation. Because while the technology is new, the need to feel understood, valued, and less alone remains the same.
