Arshdeep Singh is set to lead India’s pace attack in the second T20I against England, scheduled to take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday, January 25. The 25-year-old left-arm pacer is on the verge of a historic achievement. With 97 wickets from 61 T20I matches, Arshdeep needs just three more dismissals to become the fastest fast bowler in the world to reach the milestone of 100 T20I wickets.
Currently, this record belongs to Pakistan’s Haris Rauf, who achieved the feat in his 71st T20I appearance. However, the overall record for the fastest bowler to claim 100 wickets in the format is held by Afghanistan’s premier spinner Rashid Khan, who reached the landmark in just 53 matches.
In the series opener against England at Eden Gardens on Wednesday, January 22, Arshdeep delivered an impressive performance by picking up two wickets. This effort not only helped India secure a solid start in the series but also allowed Arshdeep to surpass Yuzvendra Chahal’s record of 96 wickets, making him India’s leading wicket-taker in T20Is. Chahal, who last represented India in this format during the series against the West Indies in August 2023, had achieved his tally of 96 wickets across 80 matches.
As Arshdeep takes the field in Chennai, all eyes will be on his performance as he chases this remarkable milestone, potentially cementing his place in the history of T20 cricket.
