The Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) has confirmed receiving a threatening anonymous email on Friday, warning of a bomb attack at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The threat has heightened security concerns surrounding the already-suspended 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season.

The Delhi Capitals were originally scheduled to face Gujarat Titans at the venue on May 11. However, the league was put on hold for a week following Thursday’s match cancellation between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala. That game was called off midway due to rising tensions near the India-Pakistan border, particularly after air raid alerts were issued in nearby cities like Jammu and Pathankot.

According to a Times of India report, the threatening email suggested the activation of sleeper cells loyal to Pakistan operating across India. “Yes, we received a threat email this morning and have already forwarded it to the Delhi Police. They already swung into action and did an inspection of the venue some time back,” said the DDCA official quoted by TOI.

The police response was swift, with a full-scale inspection of the stadium carried out shortly after the alert. Authorities are now on high alert, and further security protocols are expected to be implemented at key sporting venues across the country.

The ongoing IPL season now faces not just logistical disruptions but also looming safety threats that could impact its future scheduling. As the BCCI continues to reassess venues and timing in consultation with officials, the recent bomb threat underscores the volatile environment currently surrounding Indian cricket.
