Donald Mustard’s 25-year career in gaming industry set to end; Know why

A great career in the gaming business  is set to end for Donald Mustard, this month. He is Fortnite’s CCO and a significant member at Epic Games.

His legacy includes overseeing the technical and aesthetic parts of Shadow Complex, a critically regarded computer game. Shadow Complex, a 2009 Xbox 360 Xbox Live Arcade game, became one of the finest “Metroidvania” games ever. It broke platform sales records and sold 200,000 copies in one week, making it successful.

Mustard wrote on X (formerly Twitter) that he had spent 25 years in the game industry working with some of the best people ever and was proud of what we had produced.

Mustard helped create groundbreaking video games including Advent Rising, Undertow, Shadow Complex, and the Infinity Blade series. He joined Epic Games, where he helped make Fortnite a global phenomenon.

He thanked the Epic Games family and CEO Tim Sweeney for a fantastic experience and enjoyed spending more time with his family.

Donald Mustard contributed outside of Fortnite as Epic Games’ global creative director in 2016. Among his projects were Battle Breakers and Robo Recall, Epic’s first full-length VR game. Fortnite, which provided joy and happiness to a large and dedicated gaming community, cemented his legacy.

Mustard thanked the staff for making the Fortnite community happy and joyous in his farewell message. His exit from gaming marks the end of an era and changes interactive entertainment forever.
