Google Pixel 9 to launch on August 13: Gemini, Pixel and more

August 13 is when Google plans to release the most recent version of the Pixel 9. But there are other highlights to the event besides Pixel 9. Additionally, Google is excited to introduce Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2, two new foldable devices. The tech giant will also present the Gemini AI features that will be included in the next generation of flagship handsets.

Google has revealed the details of its August 13 hardware event, where the firm will be showcasing new products and innovations. The tech behemoth revealed last week that the Google Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the next flagship smartphones, will be unveiled at the event. No, this isn’t it. The X (formerly Twitter) post also disclosed that Gemini AI will be substantially integrated into the forthcoming products.

It is evident from the post that the firm will provide additional details on the AI capabilities of these devices that are powered by Gemini. However, Google will also announce the release of the Pixel Buds Pro 2 and Google Pixel Watch 3. Notably, Google is launching its new line of devices earlier than the Apple iPhone 16 series. This gives more room to stay ahead of Apple. The event is set to commemorate at 10AM PT, which means 10.30PM in India.

Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold: First foldable in India

As previously mentioned, Google teased the Pixel 9 Pro and Pixel 9 Pro Fold, two of its most expensive forthcoming products, last week on X. With the exception of Gemini, camera island, and the upper half of the rear panel, nothing was revealed in the 20-second films. The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold takes center stage, while the Google Pixel 9 Pro is similar to its predecessor, the Pixel 8 Pro. The second foldable device from the firm is the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Pixel Fold, Google’s first foldable smartphone, was released, however not in India. But not right now. The debut of this smartphone in India has been verified by Google.

The Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s exquisite design with its dual-pill-shaped camera cutouts is showcased in the official teaser. In the upper-left corner of the back panel, there is a rectangular island that holds the cameras. The phone is reportedly going to have a punch-hole camera on the left side of the screen, an improvement over the first fold’s bezel-mounted camera that was made feasible by the smaller bezel. This is despite the fact that the teaser does not show the inner screen camera.

The Gemini Era

Notably, the identical teaser from last week focused more on the devices’ built-in Gemini AI than it did on the hardware. The phrase “A (foldable) phone built for the Gemini era” appears on both, announcing the newest in a long series of tech events with an AI focus.

Gemini also garnered attention in May at the Google I/O conference. It appears like Google purposefully kept its developer conference and its announcements of consumer hardware separate, releasing the low-cost Pixel 8a ahead of schedule to set it apart from the developer-focused activities. Interestingly, this year’s most exciting consumer-facing Android AI technology hasn’t been released on a Pixel device at all.

Additional announcements

Google is anticipated to introduce the Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2 during the forthcoming event in August in addition to the Pixel 9 series.

Google has been releasing its flagship products early as a competitive edge in the market, ahead of Apple’s next iPhone 16 series, which is scheduled to launch in September of this year as usual.
