The Indian team management went with 19 players (squad of 15 & 4 in reserves) in the T20 World Cup 2024 which is currently being played in USA and West Indies and earlier it was decided that reserve players will be with the team for the whole tournament.
However, now the team management is sending Shubman Gill and Avesh Khan back to India and they won’t be going to West Indies with the team. The decision has been taken because of the schedule of the Super Eight as there is a very little gap between the matches.
The Indian team will play their Super Eight matches on 20, 22 and 24 June and if they qualify, they will play the second semi-final on 27 June.
A source stated, “There was very little gap between games for any extensive practice. So it was decided by the management to release the two players as matches are literally back to back and there is very little scope for marathon practice sessions to happen. Khaleel is already there to ensure the left-arm variety in nets if needed.”
Most probably India will fly to Barbados on 16 June and from there, they will move to Antigua and St Lucia for their next two matches.
Will India win the World Cup this time? What do you think?
