Mohammad Rizwan, Pakistan’s ODI captain, has spoken openly about the criticism he frequently receives for his English-speaking skills, especially on social media. Following a tough tour of New Zealand, Rizwan is now back home leading the Multan Sultans in the Pakistan Super League and, once again, facing online scrutiny over his language proficiency.

Clips from dressing room pep talks and practice sessions often go viral for all the wrong reasons, with trolls targeting his spoken English. Since stepping into the role of Pakistan captain, that attention has only intensified. But Rizwan remains unfazed by it all, making it clear that his self-worth is not tied to fluency in any language.

“I don’t care [about social media trolling]. I am proud of one thing and that is whatever I say, I say from my heart. I don’t know English,” he said with quiet confidence.

In a recent press conference, Mohammad Rizwan acknowledged that while he does regret not getting enough education, he feels no shame in his limitations. “The only regret is that I did not get enough education but I am not even one per cent ashamed that I can’t speak English despite being the captain of the Pakistan cricket team,” he stated.

His focus, as he explained, remains firmly on cricket—a commitment he believes matters far more than linguistic finesse. For Rizwan, authenticity and performance are what define leadership, not polished grammar.
