Is Gmail going to shut down? Know what Google says about the rumors

Google says it will keep Gmail amid rumors of a closure. The HTML version of Gmail, which was handy for users with limited internet connectivity, will be discontinued.

Google has confirmed that it won’t close Gmail, despite rumors about its shutdown. Gmail users panicked after a false image appeared online claiming its discontinuation. Google said that this image was bogus and Gmail is still operating.

The simple HTML version of Gmail is being discontinued by Google. This minimal email access version will be removed.

The real change is HTML view’s removal. Last September, Google verified this. Gmail will no longer support HTML views in January 2024. This condensed Gmail display was useful for individuals with limited internet connectivity. Unlike the ordinary view, it lacked chat, spell checker, and rich formatting.

Users used to the HTML view may need to adjust to the regular view. Whether Google will develop a low-connectivity mode is unknown. Global users will still have access to Gmail.

Conclusion

Despite fears over its future, Google says Gmail will continue. In January 2024, Gmail’s basic HTML version will be terminated. Last September, this adjustment was validated for users with weak internet connectivity. The HTML view, which streamlined Gmail, will be removed. Whether Google will add a low-connectivity mode is unknown.
