The beautiful actress Kriti Sanon made her Bollywood debut in 2014 alongside Tiger Shroff in the film Heropanti. While Tiger gained immense popularity for his martial arts skills and being the son of actor Jackie Shroff, Kriti recalls being overshadowed as “Tiger Shroff’s heroine” after the film’s release. In a recent interview, she shared her experiences of working with Tiger and how it took time for her to establish her own identity in the industry.
Kriti Sanon mentioned that although Heropanti marked Tiger’s much-anticipated launch, the director and producer treated the film as introducing two new faces. “I got the quintessential Bollywood heroine moment too, with songs and everything,” she said. However, she admitted that for a while, people referred to her as “the one who appeared in Tiger Shroff’s movie.”
Coming from a non-film background, Kriti reflected on the challenges of carving her own space in Bollywood. “When you are not from the industry, it takes longer for you to etch your name and face into the minds of people,” she explained. She also shared a personal anecdote about filmmaker Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari’s children calling her “Tiger didi” before she gained recognition for her own performances. “Those were the instances when I realised I would have to work doubly hard to get people to recognise me for who I am,” Kriti added.
It was only after her role in Bareilly Ki Barfi that she felt people began to see her for her own talents. The film, directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari, helped Kriti gain critical acclaim and set her apart from her earlier roles.
Looking forward, Kriti is stepping into new territory with her upcoming film Do Patti. The movie not only marks Kriti’s debut as a producer but also features Shaheer Sheikh’s first appearance in Bollywood. Do Patti also stars Kajol, who will portray a cop for the first time. Netflix describes the film as a gripping investigation that delves into the dark rivalry between twin sisters and the tumultuous man they both love.
