PBKS Coach Ricky Ponting Upset After Glenn Maxwell’s Goof-Up In PBKS-GT Clash

Punjab Kings’ star batter Glenn Maxwell had a forgettable outing against Gujarat Titans in Match 5 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Walking in to bat, Maxwell attempted a reverse sweep on the very first delivery he faced from Sai Kishore. However, he completely missed the ball, which went straight through and struck his pads. The umpire wasted no time in raising his finger, and Maxwell, without any hesitation, made his way back to the dugout.

Moments later, replays flashed on the big screen, revealing that the ball was actually going over the stumps. Had Maxwell opted for a review, he would have survived the dismissal and continued at the crease. His decision to walk off without consulting the review system did not sit well with Punjab Kings’ head coach Ricky Ponting. The former Australian captain, visibly displeased, was seen shaking his head in disappointment in the dugout.

Further replays also captured a brief exchange between Maxwell and Punjab Kings’ captain Shreyas Iyer, where Maxwell indicated that he had not edged the ball. Despite this, both players decided against using the review, which ultimately proved to be a costly mistake.

With this golden duck against Gujarat Titans, Maxwell now holds an unwanted record in IPL history, having been dismissed for zero a staggering 19 times. This latest setback adds to his struggles, marking another low in his IPL career.
