The Tamil film Aghathiyaa, starring Arjun Sarja, Jiiva, and Raashii Khanna, made its theatrical debut last month. While its box office run was relatively short, the film left a lasting impression with its experimental concept and VFX-heavy storytelling. Now, a month after its release, the film is gearing up for its digital premiere on Sun NXT, set to take place on March 28.
In a recent interview, Raashii Khanna addressed the prevailing gender disparity in VFX-led films, which often remain a male-dominated space. She reflected on her role in Aghathiyaa, acknowledging that she was aware from the beginning that the film would largely revolve around Arjun Sarja and Jiiva. However, she emphasized that this understanding did not deter her from taking up the project.
“When I heard the script, I knew what I was getting into. It’s good if commercial films reserve that much space for women. Aghathiyaa had Arjun sir and Jiiva, so I knew that would probably be dominating the film, but I was fine with it. These things are fine as long as I know that my character is substantial and it has its own space to bloom,” she shared. She further added that for her, the impact of a character is more important than its screen time. “I’ve always maintained that no matter how big or small my role is, it should have some impact, otherwise I’m replaceable and anyone can play the part that I’m supposed to play.”
With its upcoming digital release, Aghathiyaa is expected to reach a wider audience, giving fans another opportunity to experience its unique storytelling and groundbreaking visual effects.
