Surprisingly, the franchise did not retain him, but Punjab Kings made a bold move in the mega auction, securing his services for a record-breaking INR 26.75 crore and entrusting him with the captaincy.
Throughout the Champions Trophy, Shreyas Iyer proved his mettle, stepping up in crucial moments whenever India faced adversity. In five matches, he amassed 243 runs, with his highest score of 79 coming against New Zealand in a Group A clash. Even in the final, he played a pivotal role in stabilizing the innings after early dismissals of Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.
