Shreyas Iyer Opens Up On Not Getting Recognition Even After Leading KKR To Their 3rd IPL Win

Shreyas Iyer has experienced a whirlwind of emotions since January 2024. From being dropped from BCCI’s central contracts list to leading Kolkata Knight Riders to an IPL victory and now playing a crucial role in India’s Champions Trophy-winning squad, his journey has been nothing short of extraordinary. Even Indian captain Rohit Sharma acknowledged his contributions, hailing him as the “silent hero”.

Following his breakthrough performance in the Champions Trophy 2025, Shreyas opened up about the lack of recognition he received despite guiding KKR to their third IPL title last year. Surprisingly, the franchise did not retain him, but Punjab Kings made a bold move in the mega auction, securing his services for a record-breaking INR 26.75 crore and entrusting him with the captaincy.

Throughout the Champions Trophy, Shreyas Iyer proved his mettle, stepping up in crucial moments whenever India faced adversity. In five matches, he amassed 243 runs, with his highest score of 79 coming against New Zealand in a Group A clash. Even in the final, he played a pivotal role in stabilizing the innings after early dismissals of Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma.

Reflecting on the past few months, Shreyas described the period as immensely fulfilling, attributing his recent success to relentless hard work. He revealed that reassessing his weaknesses and making necessary adjustments had been the key to his resurgence, allowing him to deliver consistent performances on the grand stage.
