Sourav Ganguly Hails Ashish Nehra’s Game Sense After GT’s Dominant Win Over SRH

Sourav Ganguly, once the leader of India’s national side and a mentor to many, had high praise for his former teammate Ashish Nehra after the latter guided Gujarat Titans to a convincing seven-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6. Nehra, who has emerged as a sharp and dependable head coach, was applauded by Ganguly for his deep understanding of the game.

“Like the way Gujarat has gone about their job in IPL since the first season. There is a lot of cricket brain in their team set-up and their approach. Ashish Nehra has shown his qualities as head coach… tremendous game sense,” Ganguly posted on X on Sunday night, acknowledging Nehra’s pivotal role in Gujarat’s impressive resurgence.

Following an underwhelming IPL 2024 campaign, Gujarat seem to be back in rhythm under the leadership duo of Shubman Gill and Ashish Nehra. With this latest victory, they have now won three out of their first four matches this season.

Against Hyderabad, Gill led from the front with a composed and unbeaten 61 off 43 balls, perfectly anchoring the chase of 153. Mohammed Siraj starred with the ball, claiming 4 for 17 and setting the tone early. Contributions also came from R Sai Kishore (2/24) and Prasidh Krishna (2/25), who bowled well on a slow surface to restrict Hyderabad to 152/8.

Although Gujarat had an early stumble at 16/2, Gill and Washington Sundar, who struck a brisk 49 off 29 balls, ensured the game was wrapped up with 20 balls to spare.

The Titans now look ahead to their next clash, a home fixture against Rajasthan Royals on April 9, with renewed momentum and their eyes firmly set on the title.
