Student Designers of Inter National Institute of Fashion Design (INIFD), the largest network of Design Institutes showcased their designer collection at INIFD Launchpad during the finale day of the FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week. INIFD is the only student body that gives its students an opportunity to showcase at India’s most coveted Fashion week.

INIFD is presenting the INIFD Gennext at Lakme Fashion Week for last 30 seasons and now for the last 6 seasons, INIFD has been providing its student designers a direct chance to showcase from their Class Desks to the Ramps of prestigious Lakme Fashion Week while sharing the same Ramp with top Designers like Manish Malhotra, Sabyasachi, Manish Arora, Tarun Tahiliani & Anita Dongre and more.

The 5 INIFD student Designers unveiled their stunning designer collections at INIFD Launchpad on Sunday, FDCI x Lakme Fashion Week: Neel Patel & Rukaiya Jariwala of INIFD Surat, Dipika Bhakat of INIFD Kolkata Salt Lake, Zainab Mubin Kamle of INIFD Pune Kondhwa, Nupur Jani of INIFD Mumbai Andheri, Prerna Tamrakar of INIFD New Delhi West.

Mr. Anil Khosla, Global CEO of INIFD, introduced these budding student designers to the media and said, “INIFD is the only Design institute in the entire world which gives chance to its students to showcase at 3 world-renowned Fashion Weeks which includes Lakme Fashion Week in India, London Fashion Week, and New York Fashion Week direct from their classrooms. These platforms provide the chance to buyers from various fashion export houses to see these stunning collections and place an order, enabling students to start earning while studying besides getting stardom & media publicity” 

Student designers- Neel & Rukaiya’s collection was inspired by mehndi stains on a fabric translating into a beautiful design. Dipika Bhakat’s, incorporated Kolkata’s Architectural glory in her collection SAFAR. A sustainable collection with rustic heritage craft imbibing the Kumaoni Ritualistic ‘Aipan Artwork’ series ‘Geru’ was presented by Zainab Mubin KamleNupur Jani, presented a collection of high fashion street-wear winter & rainwear jackets taking inspiration from Golas. Prerna Tamrakar, presented collection with a reversible and convertible concept.

The final selection to showcase at the INIFD LaunchpadLakme Fashion Week was done during ‘The Design Festival’ which is a unique and exclusive platform, where eminent jury members select INIFD Fashion and Interior design students, pan India.

These 5 student designers were selected from over 5000 entries and RISE Worldwide selected one student each from 75 premium Centres of INIFD. A jury comprising top Designers like Raghavendra Rathore, Leena Singh, Anavila Misra, Suneeta Shanker, K.H. Radharaman, Media heads like Shefalee Vasudev, and Neeraj Gaba selected one winner from each zone who was later groomed by Design experts – Daniel Franklin & Neeraj Gaba to showcase at The INIFD Launchpad.

Almost all of those who are struggling financially are living above their means. They spend more than they earn, and their debt is weighing heavily on them. If you want to get out of debt, you must develop the habit of saving and budgeting your money.

3. Ditch the TV and spend less time on the internet.

How much of your valuable time do you waste by staring at a screen? Two-thirds of wealthy people watch less than an hour of TV per day, and nearly as many—63 percent—spend less than an hour per day on the internet unless it is for work.

Instead, these successful people spend their free time on personal development, volunteering, networking, side jobs or side businesses. They also pursue some goal that will result in future rewards. However, 77% of those in financial difficulty watch TV for an hour or more per day, and 74% use the internet for an hour or more per day.

4. Volunteer and network on a regular basis.

Spending time pressing the flesh and giving back in your community will help you build valuable relationships that can lead to more customers or clients or help you land a better job. Almost three-quarters of the wealthy network and volunteer at least five hours per month. Only one out of every ten people in financial difficulty does this.

One advantage of volunteering is the kind of friends you will make while doing it. Nonprofit boards and committees are frequently made up of wealthy, successful individuals. Developing personal relationships with these people frequently leads to future business relationships.

5. Always go above and beyond in your work and business.

Unsuccessful people suffer from “it’s not in my job description.” As a result, they are never given more responsibility, and their wages grow very slowly from year to year—if they are still employed at all. Wealthy people, on the other hand, make themselves invaluable to their employers or customers. They do so by writing industry-related articles, speaking at industry events, and networking. Successful people put in a lot of effort to help their employers or businesses achieve their mutual goals.

The most common reason for not working out is that there isn’t enough time. Wealthy people have the least amount of free time. However, they are the least likely to use that excuse. This is because they recognise that their health and well-being have no monetary value.

Eating healthy and exercising on a daily basis go hand in hand. Purchasing enough fresh produce, organic or not, to create a healthy balanced diet will cost you slightly more than a bag of Cheetos and a cola. But the most important tip for reaping the benefits of your financial investments is to first invest in yourself.

9. Reading every day can help you become rich.

Reading information that will help you learn more about your business or career will make you more valuable to your colleagues, customers, or clients. Every day, 88 percent of wealthy people read for 30 minutes or more.

Moreover, they make good use of their reading time. Successful people read in order to better themselves. This distinguishes them from the competition. They are able to see more opportunities and earn more money as their knowledge grows. In comparison, only one in every fifty people who are struggling financially reads for self-improvement on a daily basis.

10. Outsourcing work is also one of the habits of rich people.

It all comes down to time management when it comes to creating wealth. You will undoubtedly accumulate a fair amount of busy work on any given day. Moirangthem Muktamani built Mukta Shoes as she couldn’t afford footwear for her daughter

Not being able to afford shoes for her daughter led Moirangthem Muktamani to build Mukta Shoes. Her handcrafted footwear now sell in countries worldwide.

Adversity in this world is filtered through the strength of a parent, who bears all of the pain and does not reveal themselves until tested. Whether it’s due to financial constraints, illness, or a lack of resources, the willingness of parents to sacrifice is beyond comprehension.

Moirangthem Muktamani Devi did not give up when she faced difficult times. Because she couldn’t afford to buy her daughter shoes, she began knitting woollen footwear. This led to her Muktamani to become a well-known artisan shoe maker in Manipur, India.

This ordinary woman turned her incredible talent into a creative profession while working on her feet to raise her children.

Muktamani was born in December 1958, and her widowed mother raised her. She married one of her classmates, Kshetrimayum Naran Singh, when she was only 17 years old. They had four children together.

Muktamani would work in the paddy field during the day and sell homemade eatables in the evening to support their children and meet their needs. She was an expert at knitting and would make carry bags and hair bands at night to sell for extra money.

She didn’t have enough money in 1989 to buy her daughter new shoes. It had a strong impact on her, so she knitted one with woollen threads. That led to the birth of Mukta Shoes that was founded in 1990. The company now exports handmade shoes to countries such as Briiain, Australia, Mexico, and even some African countries. Mukta Shoes quickly became well-known and was registered in the District Industries Center under the wool embroidery section. She encountered significant challenges while raising funds for the business because she had not one, not two, but three children who required her constant care and attention.

Her determination pulled her out of the struggles over the years, and it was only a matter of time before her business expanded internationally, claiming awards and recognition along the way.

Over 1,000 people have been trained by Muktamani. Mukta Industry, her shoe factory, creates handcrafted and affordable footwear for men, women, and children.

This year, National Insurance partnered with The Telegraph to host the True Legends Awards 2018.

The ceremony was held to honour 11 people who have positively impacted society and their own lives. Muktamani is one of the winners of the award, and she said she would dedicate the honour to the women who have helped her along the way. She has also received numerous awards.

When one considers Muktamani’s family’s proud expression, it is clear that parenthood can be defined in ways other than hardship and struggle. It also demonstrates that an act of endearment can change people’s lives, inspire and give birth to change, which is the greatest gift anyone can give.

Meet ‘Mother of a thousand orphans’ Sindhutai who won Padmashri award for 2021

Sindhu Tai Sapkal, from Pune, is known as the ‘Mother of a thousand orphans.’ She was declared as a winner of the Padmashri award for 2021 on Monday.

Sindhu Tai Sapkal, also called ‘Sindhutai’ or ‘Mai’ is among several people from Maharasthra who have been declared by the Ministry of Home Affairs as winners of the Padmashri awards for 2021. Although her name refers to a thousand, she has adopted nearly 2,000 orphans.

Sindhutai grew up in an impoverished family in Wardha, Maharashtra. Sindhutai, like many other Indian girls, has faced discrimination since birth: Sindhutai’s mother was opposed to her attending school or receiving an education. Her father, on the other hand, was adamant about educating her and used to send her to school, unbeknownst to her mother, who assumed she was going cattle grazing. Sindhutai was forced to abandon formal education at the age of 12 and marry a man 20 years her senior.

Sindhutai was sent to Navargaon, Wardha, to live with her husband after her marriage as a child bride. The husband was abusive to her on numerous occasions.

Sindhutai began fighting for her cause as a teenager, fighting against the exploitation of local women by the Forest Department and landlords.

When she was 20 and pregnant for the fourth time, rumours of her infidelity spread throughout the village, leading Sindhutai’s husband to beat his pregnant wife and abandon her. She gave birth to a baby girl in a nearby chow shed while bloodied and semi-conscious.

Her mother humiliated her and turned her away when she attempted to return home. Sindhutai began begging in trains and on the streets to survive because he had nowhere else to go and a baby to feed.

According to a source, she spent her nights in cemeteries and cowsheds, fearing for her and her daughter’s safety and started spending time with orphaned children around that time. She adopted a dozen orphans and took on the responsibility of feeding them, even if it meant begging even more.

After many years, in 1970, well-wishers assisted Sindhutai in establishing her first Ashram in Chikaldara, Amravati. Savitribai Phule Girls’ Hostel, her first NGO, was also founded and registered in Chikaldara.

Sindhutai has dedicated her entire life to helping orphans. As a result, she is affectionately known as ‘Mai’ (mother). Many of the children she adopted have gone on to become well-educated lawyers and doctors, and some, including her biological daughter, have started their own orphanages.

Sindhutai has received over 270 awards from various national and international organisations for her outstanding contributions to society, including the Nari Shakti award, India’s highest civilian award dedicated to women, which she received in 2017 from President Ram Nath Kovind. Ms. Sindhutai was also honoured in 2019 with the Dr. Pinnamaneni and Smt. Seetha Devi Foundation Award.

In 2010, a Marathi-language film based on her life, ‘Mee Sindhutai Sapkal,’ was released.

In 2019, she told the press, “I have over a thousand children, about 200 sons-in-law, and about 60 daughters-in-law. Nonetheless, my desire to mother more orphans and help those in need does not fade. I would like to adopt all of the society’s orphans. To accomplish this, I will need everyone’s help. Sindhutai’s orphanages and NGO rely on donations from the general public.”

Sindhutai responded to the Padmashri award, saying, “I am overwhelmed after hearing the news of my being given the Padmashri award. It will undoubtedly help to alleviate the hunger of my orphanage children. This award is dedicated to all of those who have helped, supported, and stood firmly behind me up to this point. And to all of my children, who are my rock. Despite the numerous obstacles in my path, I have never given up or stopped working. This award is for my children’s hunger. I will never forget my past and look forward to working even harder for my children. There was hunger and fire in my belly, which I realised was present in all of my children’s stomachs, so I shared my hunger with everyone and began working with orphaned children. While accepting this award, I was reminded of my father. He always told me to fight the situation rather than cry about it. Today, I’m missing him terribly.”

Bhoomi Trivedi’s new song Ghani Cool Chori is a super duper hit. The singer has in an interview thanked music director Amit Trivedi for giving her the song.

Bhoomi Trivedi has just given an interview to Times Applaud, whose team congratulated her for the success of the Ghani Cool Chori song. 

Bhoomi belongs to a musical family in Vadodara of Gujarat and fell in love with music at a very young age. She rose to prominence through the national singing competition Indian Idol. Her voice is not just energizing and well known in Bollywood now, it has also become a brand in itself.

Bhoomi thanks music director Amit Trivedi for thinking of her for the song

During the interview with Times Applaud on Ghani Cool Chori, Bhoomi thanked music director Amit Trivedi for choosing her voice for the song. Amit Trivedi is an Indian film music director, and lyricist. He is also a singer and debuted as a film composer in Aamir, a 2008 Hindi film. Amit was noticed for his highly lauded work in the Hindi film Dev.D (2009). The music of that film which got him the 2010 National Film Award for Best Music Direction and several other awards.

Bhoomi Trivedi says Amit Trivedi presented the song to the public in such a way that it seems they were waiting for it since years. 

She thanked music director Amit Trivedi, saying, “I am grateful to Amit Trivedi sir for giving me this song. He actually believed in my voice, and my potential. Who is not Amit sir’s fan. If you speak specifically about me, I have followed his songs and music a lot all these years.”

Speaking about how she got Ghani Cool Chori, Bhoomi explained, “As happens with any artist or singer to work with a certain musician and music director, I always wanted to work with Amit sir. It was my dream to work and sing for him. I had met Amit sir at several events and he definitely knew my voice, the songs that I have been doing, and everything about me. Amit sir also knew that I had a different kind of voice and wanted to give me the right opportunity to sing for him. But we weren’t being able to meet to work together so finally he gave me a call. When I came to know about Rashmi Rocket and the song, I was completely overwhelmed. And when I met Amit Sir, I found him so humble. The work pressure of being a renowned musician and living legend, was not seen on his face and he was very cool and calm. He then explained the song to me to such an extent that he took me into the character in it. He actually made me believe that I am that character and I am singing the song for myself. Amit sir’s Guiding me and giving me freedom at the same time. I was completely overwhelmed by the way Amit sir explained the song and it’s situation. It feels great now that I have worked for him for the first time.”

Bhoomi then told us what happened when she finally sung Ghani Cool Chori. 

She said, “When I sung for Amit sir, I was in the studio and when I first met him I spoke so much about his work and the way I have followed it. I told him I have been listening to and performing his songs in my shows. And finally I have worked for him for the first time and would like to thank him for giving me the wonderful opportunity.”

After all the success she has seen, Bhoomi remains humble. This can be seen when the singer gave credit to the entire team for the success Ghani Cool Chori has achieved. She says it was teamwork that has made the song a super hit.

She said, “I love the way she (Kausar Munir) writes and I have followed all her work. The way she writes reflects that she her different personality, signature and identity.”

Kanika Tekriwal fought cancer before building Rs 150cr aviation business Jetsetgo

Kanika Tekriwal formed an aviation business starting on Uber model. Jetsetgo is now a Rs 150crore turnover business.

Kanika Tekriwal’s story is an example of the saying: You join the ranks of high flyers when you dare to dream big. Kanika survived cancer and entered the Indian field of aviation business without owning a single aircraft nine years ago.

Her plan to launch a charter aircraft business using an aggregator model similar to Ola and Uber inspired Kanika to establish Delhi-based Jetsetgo Aviation Services Private Limited.

Kanika explains, “I invested Rs 5600 in developing an app to book chartered flights.”

To run the business for the first two years, I took advances from clients and credit from vendors.

I also provided consulting and advised people on the purchase of aeroplanes based on their specific requirements.”

Sudheer Perla, a chartered accountant and Oxford management graduate, became a co-founder of the company in 2014.

Kanika has had to fight many battles to get to where she is now. Kanika survived cancer nine years ago and resurrected herself by launching Jetsetgo. In Bhopal, she was born into a Marwari business family. Maruti dealerships were owned by the family all over the country.

Kanika’s father, Anil Tekriwal, started a real estate business after the family business was divided. Sunita, her mother, is a housewife, and she has a younger brother named Kanishk.

Kanika was admitted to Lawrence School, Lovedale, Ooty, in Class 4 at the age of seven.

She was the youngest child in the class at a residential school.

She returned to Bhopal after Class 10 and graduated from Jawaharlal Nehru School in 2005 with a Class 12 in commerce. She then relocated to Mumbai to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Communication and Designing at the BD Somani Institute (2005-08). 

She also started working part-time.  She also worked in the designing department of India Bulls’ real estate division while in college. She was later transferred to the company’s aviation section, where she met many people in the aviation industry.

When she graduated in 2008, her parents told her that she could either continue her education or marry.

Kanika explains, “This happened in December, and in January 2009, I enrolled in a one-year MBA programme at Coventry University in the United Kingdom. My parents, I believe, have always steered me in the right direction, even if their decisions at times appeared harsh.”

In the UK, she maintained her ties to the aviation industry by landing a job at Aerospace Resources while also pursuing her MBA.

Kanika says she learned how things work in an international airline, and it was in that company that the concept for Jetsetgo was conceived.

She returned to the UK after completing her MBA. But in 2011, she got a big surprise when she found out she had cancer.

Kanika, who was only 23 years old at the time, says, “I came home right away because I wanted to be with my parents. They were extremely supportive, acted as a nurse to me, and made me their top priority; it is only because of them that I survived. Once I decided to fight, I began reading motivational books by Lance Armstrong, who also suffered cancer, but fought it sucessfully. His words inspired and energised me. I recovered after 12 chemotherapy sessions and a year of radiation.”

Kanika founded Jetsetgo shortly after recovering from cancer, and the company has since grown to a Rs 150 crore turnover. Jetsetgo employs approximately 200 people and has offices in Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad.  The company purchased its own fleet of eight aircraft last year.

Kanika says, “In 2020-21, the company will handle 1 lakh passengers and operate 6000 flights. Our clients are mostly corporations, celebrities, politicians, and important people. We provide charter flights ranging in size from a six-seater to an 18-seater plane. Our busiest routes are Delhi-Mumbai, Mumbai-Bengaluru, and Hyderabad-Delhi. Approximately 5% of our flights are used for medical emergencies.”

Jetsetgo is one of the companies that has grown despite the overall negative impact of the pandemic on the economy.

Kanika claims, “During the COVID lockdown, no employees were laid off or their pay was reduced. We have no right to reduce their salary because we do not share our profits with them.”

Kanika Tekriwal stated that she intends to be a part of the exciting air-taxi travel that is expected to take over cities in the near future.

She added that in the future , Jetsetgo will continue to lease planes as well as buy planes, because it needs to build its infrastructure.

How Nidhi Yadav built Rs.137cr women’s wear brand AKS with Rs 3.5lac from home

Nidhi Yadav started AKS Clothing from her home in Haryana. The brand that was launched with an investment of Rs 3.5 lakh is now a Rs.137 crore business.

Nidhi Yadav, then a 23-year-old software engineer at Deloitte in Hyderabad, abandoned her job to pursue her passion and enrolled in a one-year study in Fashion Buying and Merchandising at Polimoda Fashion School in Florence, Italy, eleven years ago. She now owns AKS Clothing, a women’s fashion firm she founded in 2014 with Rs 3.5 lakh in her 2BHK home in Gurugram, Haryana.

Nidhi established AKS (which means Reflection in Hindi) when her daughter Sunidhi was only seven months old and she had been married for less than two years. The company began as an online brand with a small selection of kurtas, anarkalis, maxi dresses, lehengas, and traditional outfits.

Nidhi explains, “By starting the business from home, we saved money on rent and it was also easier to handle my daughter, who was only seven months old at the time.”

Satpal Yadav, Nidhi’s husband and an MBA from IIM Kozhikode, encouraged her to start the business and accompanied her to Jaipur to buy the clothing.

Tracing AKS’ journey, Nidhi Yadav says, “I was interested in creating a fast fashion modern wear business like Zara, but my husband, who was then working at Jabong as operations manager, felt there was more possibility in ethnic clothing.”

Nidhi has always aspired to be a top performer, and it is too soon for her to rest on her laurels. Nidhi was born in Indore to lawyer couple Karan Singh Yadav and Rajbala Yadav and grew up with her younger brother. She attended Indore Public School and graduated with honours in 2004. Nidhi describes herself as a painstaking, hardworking, studious child. I’ve always wanted to be the first person in class, and that mindset has stayed with me.

Nidhi worked for approximately a year on her own before hiring her first employee. Nidhi managed everything on her own for about a year and a half. She did the packing and then taught her housekeeper how to do it. She marketed her products on Limeroad, Jabong, and, later, Myntra. These companies would come to her house and collect the products. Nidhi bought her outfits in Jaipur. Three units soon agreed to produce her custom-made garments.

Nidhi established Yuvdhi Apparels as a sole proprietorship in 2014, but three years later transformed it to a private limited company. Nidhi has carefully positioned her brand since the beginning. The emphasis has always been on ethnic wear and quick fashion, which means that new designs are released every 15 days or so.

According to her, “2014 was a time when people were leery of online purchases and rapid fashion was unheard of. We released new styles every 15 days and made them in tiny amounts.”

Nidhi grew steadily, hiring her first employee in 2015 and adding three more the following year. Her husband joined the company in 2018, and AKS has expanded to a staff of 110 people.

Every month, AKS releases over 300 new designs in limited quantities. Nidhi has also recently created a mother-child line. During the pandemic lockdown, this collection was developed out of need.

The crew consists of five tailors and a team of designers that work with Nidhi to create the designs. Tailors then work on the designs and make sample items, which are subsequently transported to partner factories in Delhi and Jaipur for mass production. Fabric is sourced from Surat, Ahmedabad, and Jodhpur. Half of the production takes place in Delhi, while the other half takes place in Jaipur.

Nidhi says AKS was a participant in Myntra’s accelerator programme. She has every right to be pleased with her entrepreneurial path thus far, but she may not want to stop there.

Aks Clothing has clocked a turnover of Rs 137 crore, and its business continues to grow. It is one of the few businesses that has expanded despite the Covid-19 pandemic. In 2021, the company’s revenue is estimated to reach Rs 165 crore.
