Mona Shourie Kapoor, a respected film producer and the mother of Arjun and Anshula Kapoor, entered matrimony with Boney Kapoor at the age of 19. Life initially appeared content and stable until the devastating revelation that her husband had fallen in love with someone else — the celebrated actress Sridevi. The news shattered Mona’s world, marking the beginning of a turbulent chapter that would eventually shape her into a symbol of quiet strength and dignity.
In a poignant interview given before her passing, Mona candidly opened up about the emotional toll of that period. “The humiliation was painful because I was pitted against a heroine. I was made to feel lesser. Industry wives gave me suggestions like, ‘Why don’t you lose weight?’ or ‘Why don’t you join a spa?’ All this made me realise that I had to get up, dust myself and start walking all over again. I told my parents that I wanted to make my own identity.”
With the unwavering support of her family, Mona began to reclaim her life. A piece of advice from a close friend’s mother would go on to become her guiding light: “‘If somebody has no place in your life, then you can have no place for them in yours.’ This was my aakashwani. I understood that I had not failed – my relationship had!” Those words sparked a transformation. Rather than being consumed by sorrow, she redirected her focus towards building her professional life, eventually finding success in television and film production.
Meanwhile, Boney Kapoor and Sridevi tied the knot in June 1996, later going public with their relationship in 1997 following the news of Sridevi’s pregnancy.
Years moved on, but Mona Kapoor’s resilience remained etched in the hearts of those who knew her. She passed away on March 25, 2012, after battling cancer and suffering multiple organ failure. Despite the loss, her children Arjun and Anshula Kapoor continue to honor her memory with heartfelt tributes and throwback pictures, keeping her spirit alive through love and remembrance.
