15 doctors turn netas in Telangana assembly elections

The high-stakes Telangana assembly elections saw 15 doctors win, including three orthopedic doctors. None of the victories are from the city.

After winning the high-stakes state assembly elections, 15 doctors will join the Assembly to address civic issues. The have triumphed across the state, but not in the city.

Three orthopaedic doctors are now MLAs. In Sirpur, orthopaedic surgeon Dr. Palvai Harish Babu (BJP) won. Bhadrachalam elected Dr. Tellam Venkata Rao (BRS), another surgeon. The Nizamabad rural section winner, Congressman R Bhoopathi Reddy, is a famous orthopaedic doctor.

Congress general surgeons Ram Chander Naik (Dornakal), Vamshi Krishna (Achampet), Murali Naik (Mahbubabad), and K Satyanarayana (Manakonduru) won. Congress-backed Medak MLA Dr. Mynampally Rohit was a first-timer. Dr. Vivek Venkataswamy won Chennur for Congress.

Narayankhed will be represented by pediatrician Dr P Sanjeeva Reddy and Narayanpet by general physician Dr Parnika Reddy (Congress). Korutla assembly segment elected neurosurgeon Dr. Kalvakuntla Sanjay. Among the other winners were ophthalmologist M Sanjay Kumar (BRS-Jagtial), pulmonologist M Ragamayee (Congress-Sattupalli), and dental surgeon Dr. Kuchukulla Rajesh Reddy.

The future health and family welfare minister is unknown as these doctor-cum-MLAs enter the third Telangana legislative assembly.

No city doctor won the high-stakes assembly elections in Telangana, but 15 doctors, including three orthopedic doctors, did. The orthopaedic doctors Dr Palvai Harish Babu (BJP) from Sirpur, Dr Tellam Venkata Rao (BRS) from Bhadrachalam, and Dr R Bhoopathi Reddy (Congress) from Nizamabad rural are MLAs.
