Director of NHIDCL Anshu Manish Khalkho provided an explanation for the continuing rescue operation’s delay for the forty workmen trapped within the collapsed under-construction tunnel in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand: the location’s precarious nature was the reason.
Khalkho told the reporters, “Equilibrium also needs to be maintained where you feel the fragile nature, and vibration needs to be taken care of.” Thus, this must be completed properly. We also need to consider the spirits of those who are trapped inside as well as the safety of the rescue crew outside.”
When questioned about how long laborers who are imprisoned will be able to endure, Khalkho responded, “A man can survive for six days without food.” Since food and drink are provided, the employee’s physical and mental well-being is good. Doctors from the administration have now contacted them to offer advice, and we are in communication with them.”
In a previous update, Khalkho reported that when the under-construction Silkyara Tunnel collapsed six days ago, rescuers had succeeded in drilling 24 meters through the debris and were drawing nearly 40 workmen who were still within.
“We are in an excellent position since we have traveled 24 yards inside. Our goal is to get to the other end as quickly as we can. Another piece of equipment is being airlifted here from Indore and will arrive tomorrow morning, according to NHIDCL Director Anshu Manish Khalkho’s statement today.
Early on November 12, the Brahmakhal-Yamunotri National Highway’s under-construction tunnel between Silkyara and Dandalgaon collapsed.
The company constructing the tunnel, National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, said in a statement made available to the media on Friday that 40 meters of the collapsed tunnel are currently being excavated using concreting, or concrete spraying, and that a cavity has formed 10 meters above the crown on both the left and right sides, as well as the beginnings of a chimney formation along the tunnel.
It stated that a second shotcrete machine has been moved from RVNL Package-ll to the work site. The NHIDCL, in partnership with Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd., is building the 4531-meter Silkyara Tunnel, which would connect the Gangotri and Yamunotri axes beneath the Radi Pass region. The tunnel is a component of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways’ Chardham Project and is estimated to cost 853.79 crores. It stated that a second shotcrete machine has been moved from RVNL Package-ll to the work site.
