Late on Wednesday night, in Chandauli, Uttar Pradesh, two encounters occurred between police teams and criminals sought in instances including narcotics smuggling, assault, gangsterism, robbery, extortion, and attempt to kill. Eight of the offenders were shot during the incidents.
Dr. Anil Kumar, the Chandauli Superintendent of Police (SP), confirmed the happenings, stating that two police stations had jurisdiction over the encounters and that the eight culprits detained were Shahjahanpur locals. But some of the offenders, he added, were able to get away, and the police were attempting to apprehend them.
According to the senior police officer, the thieves would break into homes and businesses at night to steal things and do reconnaissance in the neighbourhood during the day. The owner of the residence was just robbed by the gang, and when he awoke and attempted to stop them, they severely injured him.
According to him, the gang had several theft, robbery, attempted murder, and other offences reported against them in different state districts.
He said that the gang members had given police information about their plans to commit robberies in the Sakaldiha and Alinagar neighbourhoods.
Police installed checkpoints in both areas and dispatched more officers from neighbouring police stations in response to the information.
According to the police, the first encounter happened at approximately 2:30 am in the Sakaldiha police station area, close to the Bhojpur railway crossing. Four offenders were hurt by gunfire from the police.
