LS Disqualification: Rahul Gandhi responds to govt bungalow vacating notice

This article covers the latest development in Indian politics, as Rahul Gandhi responds to the notice sent by Lok Sabha Secretariat asking him to vacate his government bungalow.

Rahul Gandhi, the former Congress president, has responded to the Lok Sabha secretariat’s request that he vacate the official bungalow by April 22.

Rahul Gandhi remarked in a letter dated 28th of March to the MS Branch, deputy secretary, LokS abha secretariat, that he attributed the good memories of his time spent at the house to the people’s mandate.

In his response, Rahul Gandhi stated – As an elected Member of Lok Sabha for the previous four terms, it is the mandate of the people to which I owe the loving memories of my time that have been spent here.

Without jeopardising my rights, I will, of course, follow the instructions in your letter.

Rahul Gandhi, a Z-plus protecte, has lived in the Tughlaq Lane home at No. 12 since 2005.

The Lok Sabha administration sent Rahul Gandhi with a notice to quit his official residence following his exclusion from the Lok Sabha on Monday. According to Gandhi’s letter, the bungalow allotment would be considered cancelled as of April 24, 2023.

According to a senior official, an MP must leave the official residence within one month after losing his membership.

On March 23, a Surat court convicted Gandhi in a criminal defamation case and sentenced him to two years in prison. The two-year prison sentence rendered him ineligible to serve in the Lok Sabha as of the date of the judgement. Gandhi was granted bail and given a month to appeal to a higher court.

After the disqualification of the former Wayanad MP, Congress workers protested across the country.
