On Wednesday, shocking images of a parade float in Brampton, Canada, depicting the assassination of former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, came to light. In response, India’s Minister of External Affairs, S. Jaishankar, expressed his disapproval of Canada’s actions on Thursday. India’s External Affairs Minister, Jaishankar, has criticized Canada for its alleged tolerance of pro-Khalistan elements. He stated that this behavior is detrimental to Canada’s relationship with India.
The motive behind this action remains unclear, apart from the possibility of succumbing to the pressures of vote-bank politics.In a statement to the press, Jaishankar expressed his concern over the amount of space being given to separatists, radicals, and those who promote violence, stating that there is a larger underlying issue at play.
A video that has been circulating on social media allegedly depicts a parade float featuring Indira Gandhi and her assassins, who were members of her security team. Jaishankar, in response, issued a firm statement. During the march, a placard was displayed which described the killing as “Revenge for Attack on Shri Darbar Sahib”. This alluded to the Indian army’s 1984 invasion of the Golden Temple.
According to reports, Khalistani sympathizers organized a march on June 4, just a few days ahead of the scheduled 39th anniversary of “Operation Blue Star” on June 6.
The Indian High Commission in Ottawa has formally expressed its concern to the Canadian government through a message submitted to Global Affairs Canada (GAC) on Wednesday.

Congressman Milind Deora expressed his views on the matter, emphasizing that it is not a question of taking sides, but rather a matter of showing respect for a nation’s history and acknowledging the pain caused by the assassination of its Prime Minister. The extremist behavior in question is deserving of a comprehensive denunciation and a unified response.
A high-ranking Canadian diplomat has condemned the occurrence.
The Canadian High Commissioner to India, Cameron MacKay, made a statement on Thursday condemning the event. He emphasized that Canada does not tolerate any form of hatred or glorification of violence.
