A Haj flight that had only women crew as well as passengers was successfully completed by Air India Express. This was the first time Air India operated such a flight.
An unprecedented all-women Haj flight was successfully completed by Air India Express on Thursday. Air India reports that IX 3025, which was carrying 145 female pilgrims, reached Jeddah at 10.45 after leaving from Kozhikode at 6.45 p.m.
According to Air India, a Tata Group-owned airline, women constitute more than 40% of its workforce. Air India boasts one of the highest proportions of female pilots among airlines, with 15% of its cockpit crew comprising of 275 out of its 1,825 pilots being women.
Air India created aviation history in 2021 when their first non-stop flight from San Francisco to Bengaluru, piloted by four women, successfully landed at Kempegowda International airport in Bengaluru.
In a historic moment, an all-female cockpit crew took charge of an aircraft. The team was led by Captains Zoya Aggarwal (P1), Papagari Thanmai (P1), Akansha Sonaware (P2), and Shivani Manhas (P2). Acknowledging the applause, they responded with a gesture of approval by giving a thumbs-up.
Air India has made a noteworthy claim on International Women’s Day. The airline has stated that 15% of its 1,825 pilots are female, which makes it the carrier with the highest proportion of female pilots. According to a statement released by the airline companies, a total of 90 flights have been operated by all-women cockpit and cabin crew. Air India has taken the lead by flying 40 of these flights across domestic and international locations. Meanwhile, AI Express has operated 10 all-international flights to the Gulf route, and AirAsia India has flown over 40 flights within India.
An Air India flight carrying 216 passengers and 16 staff members arrived in San Francisco on Thursday, following a diversion from Magadan in far-eastern Russia. The diversion was due to an engine problem that left the passengers and staff members detained in Magadan for two days.
Air India’s nonstop flight AI-173 to San Francisco took off from Delhi at 4:23 am on June 6th. The flight was scheduled to arrive in San Francisco at 7 am local time the following day.
