Rohit Sharma is undoubtedly a good IPL skipper as his team Mumbai Indians has won the tournament five times under his leadership but he has failed to achieve the same level of success at the international level.

Recently, the Indian team suffered a humiliating defeat of 209 runs against Australia in the WTC final which was played at the Oval, London, and now there are speculations that the selectors may remove Rohit Sharma from the test captaincy if he fails to perform in the two test matches against West Indies.

As per a senior BCCI official who agreed to speak on the condition of anonymity, “These are baseless stuff that Rohit will be removed from captaincy. Yes, whether he will last the whole two-year WTC cycle is a big question as he would be nearly 38 when the third edition ends in 2025. As of now, I believe that Shiv Sunder Das and his colleagues will have to take a call after the two Tests and looking at his batting form.”

He further said, “After West Indies, we have no Tests till December-end when the team travels to South Africa. So there is enough time for selectors to deliberate and take a decision. By then the fifth selector (new chairman) will also join the panel and a decision can be taken”.

It is also being said that Rohit Sharma was not interested in taking up captaincy of the test team but the then BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah convinced him because they were unhappy with KL Rahul’s captaincy in the match against South Africa.

Who according to you will be the new Indian test captain?
