During his visit to the US, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is due to have a State Dinner on Thursday. US First Lady Jill Biden created the State Dinner menu alongside guest Chef Nina Curtis, White House Executive Chef Cris Comerford, and Executive Pastry Chef Susie Morrison. She told reporters a day before the event that the meal will include millet dishes and gourmet specialties inspired by PM Modi.
“Tomorrow night, guests will walk across the South Lawn into a pavilion draped in rich greens with saffron-coloured flowers at every table—the colours of the Indian flag,” Jill Biden added.
First course: Marinated Millet and Grilled Corn Kernel Salad, Compressed Watermelon, and Tangy Avocado Sauce. Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms and Creamy Saffron Risotto are the part of the main course. The menu also includes Sumac-roasted Sea Bass, Lemon-Dill Yogurt Sauce, Crisped Millet Cakes, and Summer Squashes.
At India’s request, the UN named 2023 the International Year of Millets to promote millets and provide healthy meals. PM Modi’s ‘Shree Anna’ initiative will meet the nutritional needs of billions.
First Lady Jill Biden will welcome PM Modi at an event emphasizing career-connected learning and workforce training initiatives during the Official State Visit. “After supper, Grammy-winning Joshua Bell will perform. “Penn Masala, a South Asian acapella group from the University of Pennsylvania, will follow his performance with songs inspired by India,” added Jill Biden.
The menu items were presented by Chefs Curtis, Comerford, and Morrison. Sacramento-based chef Nina Curtis is renowned for her plant-based food. Chef Curtis’ enthusiasm for plant-based cuisine spans two decades as a Director of Culinary and Executive Chef.
The State Dinner cuisine has been under development for months. “The First Lady and I are thrilled, and I believe we fulfilled our mission,” Curtis remarked. She stated that they are thrilled that India is leading the worldwide year of millet and have added marinated millets to the menu. “The theme, the inspiration of State Dinner (being hosted at the White House for PM Modi) was India’s national bird peacock,” said White House social secretary Carlos Elizondo.
