On Tuesday, two MBBS candidates are said to have committed suicide in Kota, Rajasthan. In Kota over the last two months, nine students have died by suicide.
In the first incidence, a medical student from Udaipur, age 18, hanged himself on Tuesday morning in his dorm room. The student, named as Mehul Vaishnav by the police, was allegedly getting ready for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).
The police claimed that they had not found any suicide notes at the scene. Mehul had spent the previous two months studying for the NEET at a coaching center in Kota. Mehul was a resident of Salumbar in the Udaipur district.
In the Vigyan Nagar neighborhood, he was residing in a hostel. Mehul was alone in his hostel room at the time of the event since his flat mate had gone out for the evening. Mehul’s hostel roommates alerted the caretaker when he didn’t leave his room even after several hours had gone.
The housekeeper forced through the door and saw Mehul’s son hanging in his room. A postmortem was requested for the student’s body.
In a similar occurrence, another coaching student who was preparing for the medical entrance exams committed himself by hanging himself.
Aditya, the student, was recognized and had been in Kota for almost two months. Nine students have died by suicide in Kota over the past two months, with five of those deaths recorded in May and four in June of this year.
The reasons behind their children’s excessive actions were a source of concern for the parents of the murdered pupils. The college/institute administrators reportedly have not yet responded when asked whether the students experienced pressure to perform poorly on their coursework.
