Congress Empowers Education: Surge of Backing to Overturn Bihar Govt’s Move to Withdraw Domicile Policy for Teachers

The government’s judgment to remove domicile policy for teachers’ jobs in the state is extremely unfair and against the youths of Bihar.

The Congress has publicly backed the Bihar government’s decision to remove the state’s residency requirement for new teacher hiring’s. The declaration was made by the Nitish Kumar government on June 27, and both the opposition BJP and Left-leaning parties criticized it.

In the state assembly, Shakeel Ahmad Khan, the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), told PTI, “The state government must have made the choice after careful consideration. It’s a complicated problem that has to be fully comprehended.

There is nothing wrong with the government’s decision to remove the domicile requirement, according to Khan, whose Congress party is a partner in the Grand Alliance administration and has two ministers in the state cabinet. If we don’t, we have no moral standing to denounce cases of Bihar-born job seekers being attacked in other states. “We are all Indian citizens. Where does the domicile issue come up? We must respect the state government’s choice, he said.

But according to the Congress leader, the state government needs to start a conversation with people opposed to the decision and allay their concerns. In protest of the Bihar government’s decision to allow citizens of other states to compete for teaching positions, hundreds of youths took to the streets of Patna on Saturday, flashing a police search.

Left parties, who provide support to the Mahagathbandhan administration from the outside, are unhappy with the recent move by the Bihar state government to abandon the domicile policy for hiring teachers. The Left parties, CPI(ML) Liberation, CPI(M), and CPI, have stated their intention to bring up this matter during the upcoming assembly session, which will begin on July 10. Their opinion matters because the state assembly has 16 members.

Some claim that removing the residency requirement would hurt Bihar’s future teachers. They query why, while other states forbid Bihar students from seeking for government positions there, the state government of Bihar opted to reverse the policy. A CPI (ML) Liberation MLA emphasized their vehement objection to the choice and demanded that it be reversed. A CPI(M) MLA also criticized the action, claiming that it unfairly affects people in the state who are looking for jobs as teachers.

Bihar’s Education Minister Chandrashekhar defended the choice by stating that there are still open headmaster positions at state schools since there aren’t enough eligible applicants for certain topics.

The education minister for Bihar supported the repeal of the domicile rule by pointing out the dearth of suitable applicants for headmaster jobs. Only 369 applicants were chosen from 6,000 applicants, highlighting the need to encourage young people from other states to apply and raise educational standards.

Sushil Kumar Modi, a senior BJP leader and former deputy chief minister, sharply criticized the choice and demanded its immediate reversal. He said that the action is an insult to the bright young people in Bihar who are being denied prospects for well-deserved employment.
