Consumers continue to cry over tomatoes across the country, with Siliguri, West Bengal, having the highest price per kilogram at Rs. 155. The disruption in supply caused by rain in the region where the vegetable is produced, according to reports, has caused the price of the item to skyrocket.
Retail tomato prices in metro areas were ranging from Rs 58 to Rs 148 per kg, with Kolkata charging the highest price at Rs 148 per kg and Mumbai charging the lowest at Rs 58 per kg. Prices were prevailing at Rs 110 per kg in Delhi and Rs 117 per kg in Chennai, respectively. The cost has been set at Rs 100 per kilogram in Odisha. According to consumer data, Siliguri, West Bengal, had the highest price per kilogram at Rs. 155.
Tomatoes are currently being sold by neighborhood sellers in the nation’s capital for anywhere between Rs 120 and Rs 140 per kg, depending on the kind and region. Local vendor Jyotish Kumar Jha in Paschim Vihar stated, “We have purchased excellent quality tomato at Rs 120 per kg from Azadpur wholesale market and selling at Rs 140 per kg at retail.
People in Ranchi, Jharkhand, are also having difficulty paying the exorbitant prices. “Tomato prices have gone up everywhere. Petrol is now less expensive than tomatoes. We now find it very challenging to control our spending, remarked a Ranchi-based client.
