The trend of making remakes is quite old in Bollywood, in fact the Hindi movie industry is known for getting inspired or copying movies from other language movie industries. If you remember, in 2012, a movie “Antim: The Final Truth” got released, it had a big star cast as Salman Khan along with Ayush Sharma was seen in the lead roles but the film failed to impress audiences and fell flat at the box-office.
Not many know but “Antim: The Final Truth” was a remake of a Marathi movie “Mulshi Pattern” which was directed by Pravin Tarde. Pravin was roped in to direct the Hindi version as well but due to creative differences, Pravin was replaced by Mahesh Manjrekar.
Recently, Pravin Tarde and actor Upendra Limaye appeared in a talk show in which they opened up on Mulshi Pattern and its remake. Pravin Tarde said, “After watching Mulshi Pattern, Salman took his collar up and kept saying, ‘What a film, what a film, what a film.’ But when he remade Mulshi Pattern, he made a mess of it (laughs).”
Pravin Tarde further said, “Mahesh sir directed it while I didn’t have anything to do with that film. But today I would like to reveal publicly that I have still not seen that film named Antim; I am not going to show such daring because in my mind and heart there’s only Mulshi Pattern. And I came to know from people that Mulshi Pattern is a better film.”
Actor Upendra Limaye who has worked in both – Mulshi Pattern and Antim: The Final Truth said, “No question about it. I have worked in both the films. I can tell you that the sincerity he (Pravin Tarde) showed in the film, which was from the soil (of Mulshi) was killed in the name of refining it. I feel if they had remade it as it is, it would have still appealed.”
Bollywood has a history of making bad remakes so this is not a surprise, what do you say?
