Amazon stops selling print & Kindle subscriptions for magazines; Check out why

The selling of print and Kindle subscriptions to periodicals including magazines, newspapers, and other publications has been stopped by Amazon. This decision, which was first announced last year and just took effect this week, has put many small publishers in a tough situation.

After September 4, 2023, Kindle subscribers, according to Amazon, won’t receive new issues of their subscriptions. For any undelivered concerns, the firm promised to offer pro-rated reimbursements within 3-5 business days. The terms of annual subscriptions will not be renewed.

If a client wants to cancel their Print Newsstand membership, Amazon urged them to get in touch with the publisher directly.

This regulation shift has had a substantial impact, and several publishers are now having trouble maintaining their magazines. Fantasy Magazine’s editorial in the August edition expressed grief at the magazine’s closure and cited financial difficulties as the reason. The editorial indicated that Fantasy Magazine couldn’t support itself financially, and that the modifications to Kindle Periodicals had made things worse.

When Amazon decided to stop selling print and Kindle magazine and newspaper subscriptions in March of last year, independent publishers were forced to rush to find other sources of income.

Some publishers have been given the chance to sign up for Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited program in reaction to these developments. Subscribers to this service can pay a monthly fee to have access to a number of books and publications.

Independent publishers are concerned about Amazon’s new policy since it affects their distribution options and viability. In the absence of Amazon’s subscription services, publishers are currently looking for new methods of maintaining their publications and connecting with their readers.
