On Monday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange signal for November 13 and 14 for Puducherry and Tamil Nadu.

Due to excessive rain, the districts of Villupuram, Ariyalur, Cuddalore, and Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu, as well as Puducherry and Karaikal, have been instructed to close their educational facilities. The meteorological agency predicts that rainfall in Tamil Nadu’s coastal regions will range from 115.6 to 204.4 mm.

IMD took it to X (formerly Twitter) and remarked, “Orange Alert! On November 13 and 14, isolated periods of heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.6 to 204.4 mm) are predicted for the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal state. Remain aware and safe.

It is expected that Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal’s coastal districts may receive between 115.6 and 204.4 mm of rain. IMD posted on X, previously Twitter, saying, “Orange Alert! On November 13 and 14, there is a chance of isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall (115.6 to 204.4 mm) in the coastal districts of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Remain vigilant and educated!”

The Regional Meteorological Centre, Chennai, issued a forecast for November 13 and 14, focusing on the areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. “On November 14, there will likely be thunderstorms and lightning in one or two locations, along with light to moderate rain in many other places.”

The statement continued, saying there was a chance of isolated areas of heavy to very heavy rain in the Tamil Nadu and Puducherry districts of Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chengalpattu, and Kancheepuram. Ariyalur, Tiruchirappalli, Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam, Mayiladuthurai districts of Tamil Nadu, and the Karaikal area are among the isolated areas over which heavy rain is also predicted. These areas are Tirupattur, Vellore, Ranipet, Tiruvallur, Chennai, Tiruvannamalai, and Kallakurichi.”

The majority of Tamil Nadu saw moderate-to-heavy rains last week, which caused serious waterlogging and the closure of schools. Prior to this, district administration representatives and the State Minister of Housing and Urban Development, S Muthusamy, conducted an inspection and situation assessment of low-lying regions.

Additionally, he promised that steps would be taken to construct sturdy banks around the ponds. Erode experienced waterlogging as a result of the persistently high rains. Rainwater combined with drain water in low-lying regions floods homes. Locals asked for a long-term solution to the area’s flooding issue.

The state’s unceasing rains have left portions of the Madurai district submerged. Meanwhile, the area was experiencing waterlogging, and Nagapattinam was brought to a complete stop by the intense rain. Schools and institutions in the Viluppuram district of Tamil Nadu were closed on Tuesday due to forecasts of significant rainfall in the area, according to C. Palani, the district collector for Villupuram. In addition, on November 14, Cuddalore District Collector Arun Thamburaj announced a vacation for all educational establishments, including professional colleges.
