In order to speed up the process of digging through the rubble and rescuing the trapped workers, auger drill equipment was being fitted in Silkyara, Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, as rescuers raced against time to evacuate the 40 workers within a tunnel.
Aside from that, continuous communications were being used to check the emotional state of the confined personnel. Because the mountains where the tunnel is located are in a delicate state, experts from Norway and Thailand are being considered. 800 mm of evacuation tubes must be inserted through over 50 meters of material.
On Thursday at 10:50 a.m., Union Minister General (retd) VK Singh is expected to visit the tunnel in order to assess the progress of the rescue efforts.
In an effort to free the trapped personnel, a rescue crew will also try to place a 900-mm hum pipe through the rubble. According to sources, rails could be put in the pipe to remove the workers so they won’t have to fight to exit the tunnel.
From the Chinyalisaur helipad, the Indian Air Force (IAF) Hercules aircraft took off with the third shipment of the new auger drill machine, which had been transported from Delhi to the tunnel. About 35 km separate Chinyalisaur and the tunnel.
The machine’s weight was causing the truck to move slowly. Three trucks were being used to deliver the drilling equipment and its components to the tunnel.
The third truck carrying the body was en route, while the first two carrying machine parts had already entered the tunnel. The 24-ton drilling equipment has the potential to cut the tunnel at a pace of 5 mm per hour if it operates as intended.
On Sunday, a section of the tunnel that was a part of the massive Char Dham all-weather road project collapsed. From the Silkyara side, the 30-meter collapsed part is located 270 meters from the tunnel’s entrance.
According to the government, the laborers were safe and were receiving water, food, oxygen, power, and medications through pipes.
