Green Light for Vehicles: Delhi Says Goodbye to Petrol, Diesel Car Restrictions

As air quality improved, the Center issued an order to immediately revoke the limitations under Stage III of GRAP throughout the entire National Capital Region. This is a huge relief. The limitations on the use of BS III petrol and BS IV diesel four-wheelers in Delhi, Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, and Gautam Budh Nagar have been lifted with the issuance of this new order. It’s possible that the Transport Department of the Delhi government would issue an order against it.

Commission Examines Delhi-NCR’s Air Quality

In light of the notable improvement in Delhi-NCR’s overall air quality, the Commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas (CAQM), a statutory body tasked with developing policies to battle pollution in the area, convened on Tuesday.

According to existing projections, average air quality in Delhi is not expected to fall into the “severe” category in the coming days, according to the Indian Meteorological Department and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology, the CAQM stated. Every day at 4 p.m., the city’s 24-hour average AQI is measured. It improved on Monday from 395 to 312 on Tuesday.

“The GRAP Sub-Committee unanimously decided to revoke Stage-III of GRAP for the entire NCR with immediate effect, keeping in mind the disruptive nature of restrictions under Stage-III of GRAP impacting a large number of stakeholders and the public as well as considering the significant improvement in the average AQI of Delhi-NCR,” the Center said in a statement.

However, in order to guarantee that the AQI values do not go much lower into the “severe” category, the CAQM stated that actions under Stages I through II of the GRAP must continue to be taken and “be implemented, intensified, monitored, and reviewed by all agencies concerned in the NCR.”

It stated that under no circumstances may construction and demolition project sites or industrial units that have received specific closure orders due to breaking or failing to comply with various statutory directives, rules, and guidelines resume operations without a specific order to that effect from the commission.

Quality of Air in Delhi-NCR

Tuesday morning saw a minor improvement in the National Capital’s air quality after a day of moderate rainfall in various areas of the Delhi-National Capital Region. The CAQM stated that in order to prevent the AQI readings from falling any lower into the “severe” category, the NCR agencies involved must continue to execute, intensify, monitor, and review the actions under Stages I through II of the GRAP.

The statement stated that construction and demolition project sites, as well as industrial units that have been given specific closure orders due to breaking various statutory directives, rules, and guidelines, are not permitted to reopen for business without a specific order from the commission to that effect.

Delhi-NCR’s Air Quality

After light rain fell in numerous areas of the Delhi-National Capital Region the previous day, the National Capital’s air quality somewhat improved on Tuesday morning. The Central Pollution Control Board reports that IGI airport (T3) had an AQI of 351 (very poor), Dwarka Sector 8 recorded 376 (very bad), and ITO recorded 436 (very severe).
