Flood Alert in Tirunelveli: Schools Closed Tomorrow as Tamil Nadu Battles Heavy Rains

Following a period of intense rainfall, catastrophic flood-like conditions persisted in numerous districts of Tamil Nadu. Due to extreme flooding, all schools in the Tirunelveli district will be closed on Sunday. All colleges, with the exception of those that served as relief camps in the area, will be open for business as normal. Meanwhile, significant flooding has left several regions of the state without access to basic necessities including food, water, and power.

Teams of rescuers from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), the Indian Coast Guard, the Indian Air Force, and other organizations are actively providing aid to those who are stuck in inundated regions. The state’s several regions have experienced flooding due to severe rainfall, which has impacted the operations of hundreds of trains. There are still rescue operations going on all around the state, despite the tremendous amount of water. A special train carrying Srivaikuntam rescue passengers arrived in Chennai on Wednesday. Following severe rains on December 18, passengers were left stuck at Srikakulam Railway Station for nearly three days. Upon arrival at Chennai’s Egmore railway station, several of them broke down in tears at seeing their loved ones.

The passengers, who had been stranded for three days, conveyed their appreciation to the residents of Srivaikuntam upon arriving at the train station.

Srivaikuntam people are the reason we are still here today. We went through a lot, but their assistance gave us hope. More than 300 passengers were served lemon rice and sambal rice at a shrine close to the station. “We need to help the people of Srivaikuntam when we go there in the future, Nivetha said ANI. After flooding in the Southern Districts, Nivetha was one of numerous passengers who were left trapped aboard the train for three days.
