The governor of Telangana, Tamilisai Soundararajan, criticized the DMK administration in the state for “handling the situation badly” during a visit to parts of Tamil Nadu devastated by flooding on Monday.
“The appropriate preventative actions ought to have been taken by the state administration. They have done a terrible job of handling this. The state government’s response to the flooding crisis has been inadequate. “The CM is holding a program with people when they are reeling from the flood,” she stated, as reported by the news agency. Devastation was caused by the unceasing rain in Tamil Nadu’s four districts: Kanyakumari, Tenkasi, Thoothukudi, and Tirunelveli.
Days after Cyclone Michaung made landfall and caused extensive damage along India’s southeast coast, at least 31 people lost their lives in rain-related events. The district of Thoothukudi recorded an extraordinary 950 mm of rain in a single day in Kalyanapattinum, exceeding the yearly normal for the area.
Following Cyclone Michaung’s flooding in Chennai, Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved the first urban flood prevention project, which has a budget of Rs 562.20 crore.
