In a shocking incident, the son and daughter-in-law of a Tamil Nadu politician have been accused of torturing and assaulting a young domestic help who used to work in their home.
The name of the politician is I Karunanithi who is a Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) MLA, he has dismissed all the allegations against his son, Anto Mathivanan and daughter-in-law, Marlina and said that they both treated her well and pulled her up only after she did something wrong. He said, “I usually don’t go there (Mathivanan’s house). The girl had apparently done something wrong, and they pulled her up for that. They are helping her to study, she is taking online classes. They have also got her jewellery and other things.”
The girl belongs to schedule caste, she is a class 12 student and was working in Anto Mathivanan’s house in order to enroll in the coaching for NEET (medical entrance exam).
The case came into notice when the girl went to her home for celebrating Pongal after working for 7 months in Mathivanan’s house as her family members noticed the mark of injuries and they took her to hospital. The government hospital doctors examined her and found injury marks, cigarette burns and other signs of abuse after which they informed the police.
A police officer stated, “The young lady was taken to Ulundurpet hospital for treatment and doctors there alerted the nearest police station. We are trying to speak to her to register a case. Neither she nor the family is accessible. We feel they are trying to avoid.”
However, the girl had a chat with an NGO and she said, “Even if I don’t do the smallest task properly, they would slap me on my face. Once, they asked me to prepare food by 6 am because they were going out of town. I hadn’t slept till 2 am the previous night. Nobody can survive without sleeping. I could only get up by 7 am. Because I couldn’t keep the food ready, they burnt my hands using a hair straightener.”
As per the reports, the NGO had a video recording of the chat with the girl and she has also said that no matter how much she was hurt, she was never provided medical assistance, she had to treat herself.
Hopefully the truth will come out soon and if the girl has been abused, then they should be punished.
