18 children die in Pakistan’s Punjab due to freezing cold

Pakistan’s Punjab had 1062 pneumonia cases in January, due to which 18 children died. The government banned school morning assemblies to stop the spread of the disease. Cold, food insecurity, air pollution, and poverty have injured nearly one million Afghan children.

In Punjab, Pakistan, cold-induced pneumonia killed 18 children. According to health department data, 1062 pneumonia cases were registered, largely in Lahore.

January saw 780 pneumonia cases in Lahore and 4900 across Punjab government facilities.

The government has prohibited school morning assemblies until January 31 to prevent pneumonia.

Pediatric pneumonia infections are rising, worrying Punjab’s temporary Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi.

Afghanistan has lost almost 2300 children to pneumonia this year.

According to Ministry of Public Health spokeswoman Sharafat Zaman Amarkhil, about one million children have sought treatment for this disease since January.

“The number of infected people is almost 1.3 million, but the number of deaths is more than last year,” said Ministry of Public Health spokesman Sharafat Zaman Amarkhil.

Cold, food insecurity, air pollution, and poverty can spread this disease.

On November 12, World Pneumonia Day is observed. Afghanistan still has significant pneumonia mortality. This condition often kills children.
