Airports in India are on high alert as Bangalore Aviation has released a set of guidelines ahead of Republic Day celebrations on January 26. If you want to travel by air on January 26th, you should take note of the following.
Bangalore Aviation said that there would be further limitations on what may fit within a purse. These include lighters, masalas, talcum powder, powdered spices, and toys that look like guns.
The Airport Authority of India (AAI) has also issued advice for travellers on January 26. Firstly, passengers should carry their travel papers in hand luggage. Secondly, travel documents can be requested at any time for identity verification.
- For a hassle-free check-in experience on January 26, the AAI advises travellers to travel light, carry just necessities, and familiarise themselves with airline policies.
- Passengers are advised by AAI to refrain from carrying liquids and sharp objects like scissors and nail clippers in their hand luggage.
- To minimise last-minute trouble, AAI advises customers to check in their luggage without power banks or lighters and to make sure that no forbidden goods are included.
- Until January 26, there will be no flights at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) for more than two hours each day. Due to Republic Day preparations and festivities, there won’t be any flight arrivals or departures at the Delhi airport between 10.20 am and 12.45 pm on January 19 and January 26.
In the meantime, Mumbai Police on Tuesday issued a directive banning flying on January 26 in the vicinity of Shivaji Park in central Mumbai, which would host a Republic Day ceremonial procession.
The new limitations have been incorporated into the NOTAM (notice to airmen) by the Airports Authority of India (AAI). A NOTAM is a message that contains vital information for those working on aircraft operations.
Airspace restrictions will also be in place in Delhi from January 19 to January 29 in connection with the festivities and preparations for Republic Day. Between 10 a.m. and 1:45 p.m. on January 19–25, neither chartered flights nor scheduled carriers’ non-scheduled landings or take-offs would be allowed. On January 26 and 29, these restrictions will be in place from 6 a.m. until 9 p.m.
On January 26, India will commemorate its 75th Republic Day, marking the historic day when the nation finished transforming into an independent republic following the adoption of the Constitution.
