Amit Shah’s Plan: India-Myanmar Border Gets a Protective Barrier

The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has been tasked with fencing a significant stretch of the strategically important India-Myanmar border, after Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s announcement a few days ago that India’s open borders with Bangladesh and Myanmar will be walled. A 10-kilometer section of Manipur has already been covered, according to PTI, which cited a senior official.

According to PKH Singh, Additional Director General (East) of BRO, the Ministry of Home Affairs has determined that almost 1,700 km of fence need to be installed.

According to Singh, the group has already completed fencing ten km of the border in Moreh, Manipur, and sent it to the Assam Rifles.

WHAT MAKES THE INDIA-MYANMAR BORDER FENCED?

The battle between rebel groups in Myanmar and the junta-regime had been more intense in the previous several months, and the Union government decided to fence off the India-Myanmar border. It was thought that hundreds of troops from Myanmar had crossed across.

The Arakan Army (AA) rebels, an ethnic armed organisation in the western Myanmar state of Rakhine, took control of the troops’ encampment, forcing them to seek safety in the Lawngtlai region of Mizoram.

On Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah declared that India will enclose its open borders with Bangladesh and Myanmar.

“There is no boundary between our country and Myanmar. The administration of Narendra Modi has chosen to fortify the border between India and Myanmar.. we’ll strive to construct a barrier throughout the whole border (with Myanmar) to match the boundaries with Bangladesh, according to Shah.
