Bihar Residents Clash with Police and Media Following Discovery of Woman’s Body

In Bihar’s Nawgachhia, a crowd of people reportedly beat police officers on Sunday after a woman’s body was found there almost two days after she vanished.

In addition, the enraged crowd assaulted reporters who had come to cover the story and set a police car on fire. Two journalists were seriously injured in the incident.

Locals report that on Friday, February 16, at around 2:00 PM, a woman by the name of Shobha Devi vanished while out selling milk. After her death was found on Sunday, the community assailed the police, accusing them of being indifferent to their frequent complaints.

When senior police officers arrived, they calmed the scene. Police said in a statement that they have opened an investigation into the matter and that persons have been questioned.

“We are setting up camp here till things get back to normal. Our goal is to retrieve the woman’s body. Puran Kumar Jha, SP Nawgachhia, told the media that local SDO and DSP are participating in it.

A crowd of residents fought police officers raiding a resident’s home in Nawgachhia, Bihar, earlier last year.

Before the group of villagers reportedly attacked police officers who were conducting a raid on a resident’s house in Naugachhia, Bihar, on Thursday night, the enraged villagers also claimed that the police team had abused the accused’s wife and kid.

The accused’s wife and kid were allegedly attacked by the police squad, according to the incensed people of Dimaha hamlet.
