Virat Kohli’s Safety Under Threat: RCB Cancels Practice, Media Events Ahead of Rajasthan Royals Match

The husband of Anushka Sharma, who plays for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League, has increased security following alleged indications from the Gujarat Police that people who may be associated with terrorist groups are plotting to harm him. The RCB team was promptly notified by Gujarat Police of the threat, leading to the cancellation of both the press conference and today’s practice session against the Rajasthan Royals.

On the evening of May 20, 2024, four men were detained at Ahmedabad airport on suspicion of engaging in terrorist activity, according to news published in the Bengali daily Anandabazar Patrika. Police searched the four accused people’ hideout and reportedly found weapons, strange videos, and text messages. When Virat Kohli arrived in Ahmedabad, he was informed about the arrest.

According to police officer Vijay Singh Jwala, the RCB management cancelled all practice sessions including the one that was supposed to take place at Gujarat College ground in Ahmedabad on Tuesday in order to prepare for the knockout match—as soon as they were made aware of Virat’s security threat. They also cancelled the press conference that was supposed to take place this evening before the eliminator match against the Rajasthan Royals. The Rajasthan Royals squad was also advised of the terrorist danger, the police official continued, but they decided to continue with their practise. There’s even more security outside the hotel’s boundaries, where the RCB crew is currently staying.

There is currently no information circulating regarding the postponement of today’s Rajasthan Royals vs. RCB elimination match. More inquiries into the matter are being conducted by police officials, and an official statement about the case as a whole will be issued shortly.
