The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has stated that Prithvi Shaw’s poor fitness and lack of discipline have made him a liability for the team. As a result, the 25-year-old has been dropped from Mumbai’s squad for the upcoming Vijay Hazare Trophy. According to a senior MCA official, Shaw’s fitness issues force the team to “hide” him on the field, which has caused frustration among senior players.
In an interview with PTI, the official claimed that during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Shaw’s lack of mobility was evident. “We were playing with 10 fielders because we had to hide him. The ball would pass near him, and he could barely reach it,” the official said. He also pointed out that Shaw appeared uncomfortable even while batting. “His fitness, discipline, and attitude are poor, and we can’t have different rules for different players,” he added.
Prithvi Shaw’s frustrations over his exclusion were made public when he shared his statistics on Instagram in a viral Story post. However, the MCA official dismissed the idea that such posts would influence selection decisions. The official also revealed that Shaw frequently missed training sessions, sometimes arriving early in the morning after being out all night.
Shreyas Iyer, Mumbai’s captain, expressed similar concerns after their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy win. He emphasized the need for Shaw to improve his work ethic, stating that the team could not “babysit” anyone. This decision reflects the growing dissatisfaction within the team regarding Shaw’s commitment and attitude.
