Ex-India Cricketer Feels R Ashwin Treated Unfairly Because He Is From Tamil Nadu

Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, aged 38, announced his retirement from international cricket on Wednesday, December 18. The Chennai-born spinner revealed his decision during a press conference after the third Test against Australia in Brisbane. His announcement took fans and cricket experts by surprise, with many believing he could have continued playing for a few more years.

R Ashwin, who had a remarkable 14-year Test career, took 537 wickets in 106 matches for India. Despite his achievements, his teammate and former cricketer Subramaniam Badrinath expressed disappointment over the treatment Ashwin received.

Badrinath shared that R Ashwin had considered stepping away earlier, especially when Washington Sundar was selected over him during the Perth Test. According to Badrinath, this reflected Ashwin’s unhappiness with the situation.

Badrinath, who played for India in the past, felt Ashwin deserved more recognition for his contributions. He suggested that players from other regions might not have faced similar treatment and lamented that Ashwin didn’t get the grand farewell he deserved. Ashwin’s retirement marks the end of a celebrated career, but the circumstances around his exit have sparked discussions among cricket enthusiasts.
