BGT 2024-25: Why Is Indian Team Wearing Black Armbands In 4th Test Match?

During the second day of the Boxing Day Test against Australia at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Friday (December 27), the Indian men’s cricket team wore black armbands.

If you are not aware then let us tell you that Indian cricketers are wearing black armbands in order to honor former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who passed away on Thursday night.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) issued a statement saying, “The Indian team is wearing black armbands as a mark of respect in the memory of former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh, who passed away.”

Manmohan Singh, who served as India’s Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, died at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. He had been admitted to the emergency ward in critical condition around 8:30 PM on Thursday.

An AIIMS bulletin explained that Singh was being treated for age-related health issues and had suddenly lost consciousness at home on December 26. Despite immediate medical efforts both at home and at the hospital, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 9:51 PM.
