“He Wanted To Prove…”,Nikhil Advani Reveals How Govinda Behaved During Salaam-E-Ishq Shooting

Govinda’s reputation for tardiness during the 1990s is a well-known anecdote in the film industry. However, filmmaker Nikhil Advani recently shared a contrasting perspective based on his experience working with the actor during the making of the 2007 film Salaam-E-Ishq. At the time, Govinda was in the midst of a career revival, and according to Advani, he was nothing short of professional and committed.

In an interview, Advani reminisced about how Govinda’s dedication stood out. The filmmaker revealed that he had once screened Salaam-E-Ishq for the late Irrfan Khan, who was deeply impressed by Govinda’s performance. Reflecting on the experience, Advani remarked, “For me, Irrfan, Govinda, and Akshaye Khanna are the people I had the greatest pleasure of directing. They don’t take their craft seriously.”

Govinda’s creative approach to his roles also left an indelible impression on Advani. He recalled the actor humorously asking him, “How do you want this scene—Italian, Mughlai, Indian, Chinese?” This buffet of ideas showcased Govinda’s versatility and willingness to experiment.

Advani noted that this period was a pivotal one for Govinda, as he was simultaneously filming Partner and Salaam-E-Ishq. “He was at a low point and wanted to prove everyone wrong. He was on his best behavior,” Advani said.

This account paints a refreshing picture of Govinda’s dedication and his drive to reclaim his place in Bollywood, even during challenging times.
