Saif Ali Khan has returned home after undergoing critical surgery following a stabbing incident at his residence earlier this month. While recovering from his injuries, a past interview of the actor has resurfaced, in which he spoke openly about facing discrimination due to his religion.
In the interview, Saif shared a personal experience of being denied the opportunity to purchase a house in Mumbai’s affluent Juhu area because he is Muslim. Recalling the incident, he said, “Try to buy a house in Juhu being a Muslim, and you will be denied, saying, ‘We don’t give houses to Muslims.’”
When asked whether he had faced similar discrimination abroad, Saif noted that this issue seemed unique to India. “Not in the USA, but I face it in India,” he remarked. He also touched upon the broader issue of religious tensions in the country, expressing a nuanced perspective. “There are religious tensions in India, and maybe that is the thing about India—to tolerate it, deal with it. I mean, human nature is not simple and it will never be simple. A man fights with his wife, and brothers fight with each other, so it’s natural one country will fight with another, and one religion will fight with another. Fighting is not unusual. I think peace is unusual, understanding is unusual, so it’s fine.”
Saif Ali Khan’s reflections highlight the complexities of living in a diverse yet often divided society, underscoring his openness in addressing sensitive issues.
