IPL 2025: Will Virat Kohli Lead RCB? Here Is A Big Update On RCB Captaincy

With a new season of the Indian Premier League on the horizon, Royal Challengers Bengaluru is preparing for a leadership change. After three seasons under the captaincy of Faf du Plessis, the franchise will enter IPL 2025 with a fresh face at the helm. Speculation is rife that Virat Kohli, who relinquished his captaincy in 2021, might once again take charge of the team. However, no official confirmation has been made by the franchise, leaving fans eagerly awaiting an announcement.

Rajesh Menon, the Chief Operating Officer of RCB, addressed the ongoing speculation in a recent interview. When asked whether Kohli would lead the team in the upcoming season, Menon remained non-committal. “At this moment, no decision has been taken. We have several leaders in the team, around four to five players who can take on the responsibility. We will evaluate our options before making a final call,” he stated.

Virat Kohli’s tenure as RCB captain spanned from 2011 to 2023, during which he led the side in 143 matches. Under his leadership, the team secured victory on 66 occasions while facing defeat 70 times. One of the most memorable seasons under his captaincy came in 2016, when he guided RCB to the final and delivered a record-breaking individual performance, amassing 973 runs.

As the countdown to IPL 2025 continues, the question of who will lead RCB remains unanswered. Whether Kohli makes a return to the captaincy role or the team opts for a fresh approach, fans will be watching closely as the franchise chases its elusive first IPL title.
