Rohit Sharma’s childhood coach, Dinesh Lad, was overwhelmed with pride and joy as India secured a thrilling four-wicket victory over New Zealand to claim the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 at the Dubai International Stadium. Reflecting on the triumph, an emotional Lad shared his happiness, expressing how Rohit’s success felt like a personal achievement.
“I have no words to speak, I have been giving interviews to news channels since morning that we are going to win… Rohit told me before leaving that we will win the Champions Trophy… He has given me this second Guru Dakshina …,” Dinesh Lad was quoted as saying by a news agency.
With this victory, Rohit Sharma cemented his legacy as India’s second-most successful captain, securing his second ICC title. This latest achievement came less than nine months after leading India to their T20 World Cup triumph against South Africa in Bridgetown in 2024.
India’s journey to this momentous win has been marked by back-to-back appearances in ICC finals, making it their fourth successive final in under two years. The streak began with the World Test Championship (WTC) in 2023, followed by the ODI World Cup final in the same year, and the victorious T20 World Cup final in 2024.
The Champions Trophy final in Dubai on March 9, 2025, marked another milestone, as Rohit became the first captain in international cricket history to lead his team to the final of all four major ICC events.
