Shashank Singh believes that Prithvi Shaw has the ability to return to his former glory if he makes the necessary adjustments to his game and mindset. Shaw, who once dazzled the cricketing world by leading India to victory in the U19 World Cup in 2018, was seen as the next big thing in Indian cricket. His debut in Test cricket further solidified his reputation, as he marked the occasion with a century. However, in recent years, his career has taken a downturn.
The Mumbai batter’s struggles have been evident, as he was dropped from the Ranji Trophy squad and remained unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction. Reports have also surfaced about issues related to discipline and his inability to meet professional expectations.
Speaking in an interview, Shashank Singh discussed what Shaw needs to do to make a comeback and revive his career. When asked about the next big name in Indian cricket, Shashank included Shaw in his response alongside rising stars like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill.
“Yashasvi, for sure, he’s a big name. Shubman Gill is another. He’s a very talented player. Prithvi Shaw, too, if he can return to doing his basics, I think he can achieve anything. I know him since the last 13 years, I used to play with him in Mumbai,” said Shashank.
Further elaborating on Prithvi Shaw’s situation, Shashank pointed out that Shaw views things differently, and there is an urgent need for him to change his perspective. He emphasized the importance of work ethic, fitness, and discipline in making a successful return.
“I know him since I’ve played club cricket with him in Bombay. If you ask me what’s wrong with him, he has different perspectives about things. If he changes his point of views regarding a few of those things, like work ethics, fitness and discipline,” Shashank stated.
Shashank’s words underline the challenges Shaw faces in reclaiming his place in the cricketing world. Whether he takes this advice to heart and works towards a comeback remains to be seen.
