Durgesh Kumar became a beloved figure after his breakout role as Bhushan in the hit web series Panchayat. His dialogues, including “Dekh raha hai Binod” and “Allhua meeting,” became viral sensations, making him a fan favorite. Surprisingly, some of his videos even garnered more views than those featuring Amitabh Bachchan. However, despite his soaring popularity, major production houses have yet to approach him with significant roles.
In a candid interview, Kumar, who first gained recognition as Aadoo in Highway, expressed his disappointment with the way the industry functions. Despite earning widespread audience admiration, he remains overlooked when it comes to casting decisions. Frustrated by this reality, he shared, “I keep working, but no big production houses are showing much interest in casting me.”
The actor pointed out that his YouTube videos have outperformed even those of Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan. “Mine has over 5 million, while his has 1.5 million,” he remarked, highlighting the paradox of fame that does not translate into opportunities.
Kumar also reflected on his journey, recalling his rigorous 12-year training in Delhi theatre. Even with such a strong foundation, he remains puzzled about how casting decisions are made in the industry. “I trained in Delhi theatre for 12 years, so I don’t understand how people are selected,” he admitted.
Discussing his experience with Panchayat, Kumar noted that he worked for only 20 days on Season 2, yet his line “Dekh raha hai Binod” became a viral hit. His portrayal earned him praise, and he cherished the friendships he built on set. “Honestly, we were not acting but living our characters,” he said, reflecting on the camaraderie and authenticity that made the show special.
Despite the obstacles, Kumar remains hopeful, continuing to work hard and waiting for the industry to recognize his talent on a larger scale.
