Google released the monthly software update for Pixel smartphones on Wednesday. It is intended to address a few bugs identified in earlier versions and is based on Android 16. Pixel owners can expect improved Wi-Fi performance and connectivity after the upgrade. As part of the Battery Performance Program, Google announced that this is the first Android 16 update for the Pixel 6a, which restricts the phone’s charging capabilities to reduce the possibility of battery overheating.
Release Notes for the Google Pixel Update
Google released information on its July 2025 monthly software update on a support page. For worldwide Pixel models, the update is available as an over-the-air (OTA) update with build number BP2A.250705.008. When the update is ready for the phone, a notification will be sent out automatically.
According to the tech giant based in Mountain View, the Android 16 version includes a patch to improve the visual experience in apps like Android Auto. Additionally, there is a fix that, under some circumstances, enhances the Wi-Fi connection’s performance and stability. The business did point out that some fixes might be region- or carrier-specific.
As part of its Battery Performance Program, Google said that it will also release the Pixel 6a’s required upgrade to Android 16. The goal of this program, unveiled earlier this month, is to reduce the risk of battery overheating, which could pose a danger to device owners.
It activates the Google Pixel 6a’s vital battery management capabilities, which include lowering the battery’s capacity and charging efficiency after 400 charge cycles. Users are entitled to free repairs, monetary compensation, or trade-in discounts if they discover that their device has been affected by the battery problem.

Surprisingly, the Pixel update does not include the July 2025 Android Security patch, and Google has not yet made public a list of CVEs that have been found and patched.
